Petitjean antique safes, often marked “Petitjean Paris – Breveté” (Patented), are high-quality, 19th to early 20th-century French security containers known for their intricate engineering and, often, their decorative, “cabinet-style” appearance. These safes are frequently associated with the Napoleon III era (1850s–1870s)
“Breveté” (Patented): The term “Breveté” signifies that the safe incorporated a patented, specific locking mechanism or design feature intended to enhance security against thieves and, in some cases, fire.
Mechanism: These safes often feature complex, multi-bolt locking mechanisms, sometimes with hidden locks requiring large, decorative keys.
This safe is in full working condition, with the original key. Would make a great conversational piece.
