The history of Hoshiarpur, a city in Punjab, India, is defined by its masterful, centuries-old wood inlay. Renowned for its intricate use of bone, ivory, brass, and copper on dark woods like shisham (rosewood) and ebony, the craft reached international prominence during the British Raj in the late 19th century. Surfaces were heavily decorated with twirling vines, peacocks, urns, and geometric circles inspired by Mughal aesthetics.

Liberty & Co, the luxury retailers, actively sold this Indian-style furniture and smalls, these items frequently appeared in their 1890s catalogues. (W:50cm fully extended)

This book slide remains in original condition, and remains fully functional.
