A superb set of Oak folding library ladders, made from solid oak, these ladders have 4 rungs and a top step, made to fold completely flat for storage, with a lovely honey colour and beautiful patina to the grain, these ladders remain in original working condition. Originally made for the General Post Office, stamped on the underside. C1967
The General Post Office (GPO) was the state postal system and telecommunications carrier of the United Kingdom until 1969. Established in England in the 17th century, the GPO was a state monopoly covering the dispatch of items from a specific sender to a specific receiver (which was to be of great importance when new forms of communication were invented); it was overseen by a Government minister the Postmaster General. Over time its remit was extended to Scotland and Ireland, and across parts of the British Empire. The GPO was abolished by the Post office Act 1969, which transferred its assets to the Post office.
These ladders are of good proportions and as they fold completely flat are great for storing away. These ladders would make a lovely addition to any home or as a shop display piece. (Height when closed 145cm)
