The Clubhouse Interiors’ showroom exhibit a massive array of Antique, Vintage and Retro sports memorabilia. A classic attraction for many sports enthusiasts, the showroom has everything any sports enthusiasts can think of. The aged leather, laces or velcro fastenings of vintage boxing gloves are extremely popular – their charm, universal – even for those that wouldn’t normally be drawn to such items, the tactile leathers are often mesmerising. The sporting memorabilia at Clubhouse Interiors can’t help but conjure up possible stories that won’t ever be told, only imagined. The meticulous design of laced leather boxing gloves are stunning in their own right – ‘sports-buff’ or not – and our collection includes the famous Spalding and Wilson brands, spanning every size and place of manufacture – with items hailing from around the globe – everywhere from the USA to Russia. One of the world’s more ancient, revered sports, the history of boxing is prevalently evident in the evolution of gloves. Absolutely necessary for fairness and relative safety, the art and skill of boxing using specialist gloves is estimated to make the sport 184 times less dangerous than bare-knuckle fighting. Boxing gloves were made mandatory in 1867 by the Marquess of Queensbury.
Clubhouse Interiors are also proud to have accrued a huge range of vintage sporting balls, from rugby to cricket, American football to English soccer, not to mention their items associated with racket sports and many other games’ miscellaneous items passing through their doors every month. The showroom also boasts a number of historically significant tennis rackets. A proud, quintessentially British sport, many tennis lovers are fascinated by the strange shapes of rackets from the past. Tennis rackets were entirely made from gut string and wood until 1968, when Spalding’s first light-weight, aluminium-alloy racket was released, changing the sport forever.
Clubhouse Interiors’ range of tennis rackets and sports memorabilia draw collectors from far and wide, and the ubiquitous charm of older shapes and lines of practical sports design are great focal points for wide range of spaces such as a child’s bedroom, sports venue or games room. The possibilities are endless and the collection must be seen to be believed. Cricket or baseballs can also make fantastic, individualised gifts that will be treasured, forever.
