A superb piece of sporting memorabilia, a beautifully hand crafted Walnut rowing machine by German maker A. Steidel of Berlin. C1910

The makers plate A.Steidel Rosenthaler Strass 34/35 Berlin and the patent No: 39882 are fully visible on this beautiful piece.

“Early rowing machines are known to have existed from the mid 1800’s, a US patent being issued to WB Curtis in 1872 for a particular hydraulic based damper design. Machines using linear pneumatic resistance existed around 1900.
