Shoehorns date to the 15th century, emerging in the late Middle Ages/Renaissance from the use of animal horns to help people into tight-fitting footwear. Buttonhooks, a tool for fastening buttons, were documented as early as the 17th century and became widespread with the 1880s popularity of high-button boots and garments, remaining in use until the early 20th century. The Lion’s head signified strength, power, and guardianship.
This is a beautiful set, remains in original condition, would make a lovely gift for any equestrian or collector. (Boot hook Dims H: 2cm W: 23.5cm D: 1.5cm Box H: 4cm W: 29.5cm D: 13cm)
