Antique Kashmiri Wall Mirror

£495.00

A charming antique Kashmiri wall mirror. This beautiful mirror has a temple style featured set above a small mirror, with a beautiful floral decoration that continues throughout. C1890

Kashmiri painted mirrors are a specialised, decorative art form that combines traditional Kashmiri artistic techniques—primarily Papier-mâché (kari-kalamdani) and woodcarving—with functional, reflective glass. Gold or silver foil was often meticulously applied to the painted surface, especially for ceremonial or luxury items, providing a regal aesthetic.Inspired by the lush, seasonal beauty of the Kashmir Valley, traditional motifs commonly include chinar leaves, lotus flowers, and roses. These items historically emerged from a confluence of Persian, Central Asian, and Mughal influences, flourishing in Kashmir from the 15th century onwards, with high-quality painted pieces frequently seen in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

This mirror is in good condition, still retaining all the original art work, a lovely little mirror that wouldn’t look out of place in any home or as a shop display.
