Antique Venetian Grotto Music Stool, Circa 1880 (SOLD)

This is a beautiful antique Italian walnut Venetian grotto music stool, with an ornate shell carved seat, circa 1880.

The revolving adjustable seat is raised on a circular base and decorated with a hand carved shell seat design with scroll ends, it stands on three slender tapering claw feet legs on a central column with stretchers set above a triangular base with bun feet. Very good antique condition

Venetian Grotto furniture was originally created for the artificial grottos of Royal palace gardens. Traditionally carved in solid wood and either painted or gilded they were also known as fantasy furniture.
