Child’s Scottish Orkney Chair

A superb Pine Child’s Orkney Chair. Born on the Orkney Island located near the northern tip of Scotland, this child’s armchair charms with its rustic appearance. Produced in the 1800’s, these stylistically very recognisable chairs feature a wooden frame with a handwoven straw back. C1880

Orkney Chairs at first were nothing more than a low round stool covered with straw. The curved back, slightly reminiscent of wingback chairs, was meant to protect whoever was sitting in the chair from the cold winds of the North Sea. This Scottish chair has two open arms, a woven seat and four tapered legs. The unpretentiousness, simplicity and originality of the shape and material, will make this petite Orkney chair a great decorative accent in any living room or child’s bedroom. (Seat H: 26cm)
