Colonial Padauk Bow Fronted Chest of Drawers (SOLD)

A Superb Bleached Anglo Indian Bow Fronted Chest of Drawers. Made from solid padauk wood, with 2 over 3 drawers, the top drawers have removable sliding jewellery trays and the 3 large drawers are graduated, making this a very unusual chest of drawers, still retaining the original hand turned beehive handles all set on turned bun feet. C1910

Apart from its large stature, African Padauk has a noble backstory. Centuries ago, African Padauk wood slabs were exclusively reserved for furniture making for the African royal families. This was mainly due to its exquisite look as well as its much-vaunted durability.

This chest of drawers is in fantastic condition with a lovely rich colour & grain to the padauk timber, with its smooth lines & generous proportions, 3 large graduating drawers that run smoothly. (2 small drawers H: 14cm W: 40cm D: 52cm, main top drawer H:18cm W: 84cm D: 52cm middle H: 21cm bottom H: 23cm ) These drawers would not look out of place in any modern or period home.
