Rare Victorian Michel Van Neuss Copper Braisière Braising Pan

Original price was: £1,500.00.Current price is: £1,400.00.

A very impressive and rare large M.Van Neuss Copper Braisiere/Braising Pan & Lid. Made from copper, with cast iron carry handles and a brass handle to the lid, this pan is very heavy. Lion D’or & Cecil Blankenberghe, and the makers M Van Neuss & M.Pommier Bruxelles is stamped on the lid and pan, this being a very high end copper business based in Rue Cantersteen, 21 Bruxelles. Dating from the early 1900s, these pans were commissioned by the hotel for their kitchen. C1901

Marker Michel Van Neuss In 1834 was awarded a patent for a distillateur-rectificateur (distiller and purifier) from the royal court of Belgium — an endorsement of quality and guarantee of business to supply the royal court. The business relocated in 1837 to 22 rue de l’Impératrice and then again in 1851 to 21 rue Cantersteen. Michel continued to invent new products; the London Exhibition of 1862 featured two entries, a grilling oven and an “inodorous water closet,” from M. Van Neuss of Belgium.

This superb piece of Kitchenalia would have been an important cooking vessel used in the hotel kitchen back in early 1900’s, serving the best quality food and when staying at a high end hotel was a luxury.

Polished to showcase the copper & brass, this piece would make a lovely addition to any collector of antique copper kitchen wear, or as a planter for a small herb garden.
