Victorian Bamboo Side Table with Magazine Rack

A superb antique bamboo side table with an integrated magazine rack. Made from Bamboo, a leather table top. C1880

Bamboo has been used for furniture for centuries, with evidence of its use in ancient China as early as the Shang Dynasty (c. 1600–1046 BC), and in India by the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. Initially, it was a material for the wealthy, but its use expanded for everyday items during the Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD). The material became a fashionable material in the West in the 19th century, often imported from Japan, and was later adapted in Europe, sometimes imitated in the form of “Faux Bamboo” furniture.

The table is in fantastic condition, would be a great decorative piece for any room.
