A beautiful Victorian bobbin turned gypsy table. Made from beech, with a leather top, and brass stud work around the edge, all set on beech bobbin turned triform base. C1880
The craft of bobbin turning was used to create various elements of wooden furniture such as table or chair legs, stretchers, and decorative details. Gypsy tables, also known as occasional tables, gained popularity in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, particularly during the 1860s and 70s. These tables were known for their portability, often featuring legs that could be unscrewed or folded for easy transport, reflecting the nomadic lifestyles associated with Romani people. While the tables weren’t necessarily used exclusively by Romani people, their design and name were inspired by the need for easily movable furniture.
This table is in a beautiful condition and would make a great addition to any home, a real statement piece of antique furniture.
