Victorian Deep Button Parlour Chair

£750.00

A Superb Victorian Deep Button Parlour Chair. This beautiful parlour chair has been reupholstered with an original Georgian velvet, covering a deep button back and the deep comfortable seat, all raised on hand turned mahogany supports sat over the original porcelain castors. C1880

The Victorian parlour chair was more than mere seating; it was a status symbol designed for the formal, status-driven parlours of the era. Featuring rich, dark woods and deep upholstery, these chairs were tailored to reflect the homeowner’s wealth and facilitate polite social rituals.

The Victorian parlour was the hub for entertaining guests. Because empty spaces were considered in poor taste, these chairs were arranged in clusters to break the ice and encourage the polite conversation (or “parley”) that the room was named for.

This Chair is in a beautiful condition, the chair has been upholstered at some point with an original Georgian velvet,  in keeping with the period. This chair would make a lovely addition to any home, or it could be used as a nursing chair.
