Victorian English Leather Hat Box (SOLD)

A Stunning Victorian English Leather Hat Box. This superb English hat box has  lovely polished leather, with brass lock and fittings, the internal is finished in a fabulous deep red quilted silk interior to the top, this was used to protect the hat during transit, comes complete with the original leather straps and Moroccan leather edging. C1880 

Hat boxes would be made from a range of materials, including cardboard, leather or metal. They would include straps or a carrying handle for transportation, the more luxurious models were padded and lined in materials such as silk in order to protect the headgear.

 A great travel piece or home decor accessory.
