A Superb Victorian Carved Oak Open Bookcase. Made from Oak, with beautifully hand carved surround of hanging fruit, flowers & leaves, with a panelled oak interior, comprising of three adjustable shelves. C1880

Victorian oak open bookcases (circa 1837–1901) were essential storage pieces for the growing middle-class, combining functional storage with decorative, often Gothic or Aesthetic, designs. Crafted from durable English oak, they feature adjustable shelves and were popular for displaying books in studies and parlours without the need to open glass doors. 

A very impress bookcase, (painted at a later date) with beautiful detailing, it would make a lovely addition to any period home or as a shop display.
