Victorian Pedestal Cylinder Pot Cupboard (SOLD)

A beautiful Victorian Walnut Cylindrical Pot Cupboard. Made from Walnut, with a circular top that has a deep moulded rim and veined white marble inset, a cylindrical body with a hidden door and a turned door knob that opens to removable shelved interior, all on a moulded plinth. C1860 

These early bedside cabinets were known as pot cupboards because they were used to hold a chamber pot next to the bed before the advent of indoor plumbing. They comprised a simple cupboard sometimes with a drawer above and would also have been doubled up as the repository of the night time candle.

This cupboard is in excellent condition and ready for use and has been treated for worm. Would make a lovely drinks cupboard or bedside table.
