Vintage Teak Campaign Secretaire

A Superb quality Teak military campaign secretaire. Made from Teak, this set of drawers split into two halves, the top section comprising of a secretaire that pulls out to reveal stationary shelves and 4 small drawers, this sits over two smaller drawers, the bottom section has two large drawers, with the original brass flush fitted handles and brass bound decoration, 4 brass carry handles to the sides all raised on the original hand turned feet. C1940

Campaign furniture was designed to be packed up and carried on the march. It has been used by traveling armies since at least the time of Julius Caesar but it is commonly associated with British Army officers, many of whom had purchased their commissions. With the rise and expansion of the British Empire in the 19th and 20th centuries the demand by the military, administrators and colonists increased.
