A Superb Aluminium Milliners Hat Mould. A solid polished aluminium milliners hat mould in the shape of the boater or bolero, these moulds were used by milliners for moulding hats, they would have been heated from underneath to form the hat around the moulds, remains in excellent condition. C1920

Boaters were derived from the canotier straw hat worn traditionally by gondoliers in the city of Venice. The Venetian canotier has a ribbon that hangs freely off the back, and they are frequently edged with a matching colour ribbon. Because of this, boaters were identified with boating or sailing, hence the name.

This mould is in superb condition and has been polished to showcase this piece.
