A superb Oak Beer Barrel Stein. Made from Golden Oak, with copper banding and a hinged flip top lid. C1890

Before widespread stoneware and glass production, drinking mugs were carved directly from wood, with stave-built barrel construction used by coopers to hold and serve ales. Shaping a drinking cup to look like a mini oak beer barrel honours the traditional casks used to age and store lagers and ales throughout Germany and Central Europe.

This beer barrel is in a lovely condition, to be used as a display piece only or as an addition to any collection.
