Mahogany towel drying racks, or clothes horses and towel rails, emerged as functional and stylish furniture pieces in the Victorian era, around the late 19th century, gaining popularity alongside improved indoor plumbing and increased access to washing facilities. They were used in bedrooms and dressing rooms for drying laundry and towels, with designs evolving from simple stands to more elaborate styles featuring barley twist columns and multiple rails, catering to both practical and aesthetic needs within the home.

This rail is in original condition, is larger than the normal towel rail, very well made, it has been waxed to showcase the lovely finish to this rail, it would make a great towel/clothes rail in any home or as a display piece in a fabric shop.
