A Superb and Rare Beech Victorian Continental Spindle Back Open Armchair, with its hand turned spindle design back and the crest having North Wind face flanked by scroll end North Wind face decoration, these chairs are also known as fireside chairs. C1880

This type of furniture was popularised in the 19^th and early 20^th century often depicting the wind god Aeolus carved into the backrest of a chair. Typically the images would depict him either stoic or blowing wind in a “grotesque” manner.
