A Superb Porcelain London street sign, porcelain mounted in a wooden frame, ‘City of Westminster Old Pye St. S.W’. C1890

Named after SIR ROBERT PYE (ca. 1620 – 1701) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commans at various times between 1640 and 1660. He fought on the Parliamentary side in the English Civil War.

Old and New Pye Street, part of which has disappeared since the year 1845 in the formation of Victoria Street, derive their names from the well known Sir Robert Pye, who resided in the New Way close by, he was by marriage a cousin of Oliver Cromwell.
